J.F. & ASSOCIATES INSPECTIONS, INC. is owned and operated by Chuck Hagerty.
Chuck graduated from college in 1976 and then finished a Master’s degree in 1978. Upon graduation he worked in higher education for fifteen years, while still continuing to build homes during his summers off.
In 1988 he obtained a Class A Contractor’s License from the State of Virginia and founded Timberlake Construction Co., LLC. Along with traditionally constructed houses, he has also built four timber-frame homes in the Lynchburg area.
In 1996 he worked with well-known builder/inspector, James Falls, for almost a year in order to learn the inspection business. At the same time, he also remained active in the construction business. This combination of thorough inspection training along with a lengthy relationship with the building trades, resulted in a solid foundation for an inspection business that has served our local community for over twenty years. Chuck has personally inspected more than 6,700 local homes and businesses.
Chuck is currently a Virginia Certified Home Inspector #3380000157, a Virginia Class A Contractor #2705104395, a Virginia Licensed Realtor #0225044282 (he uses this to run his inspection business more efficiently) and a Radon Measurement Specialist with the NRSB #9SS0039.

Home Inspections
A home inspection is a professional, objective, visual examination of a home’s condition. Whether you’re buying, selling or building a home, it provides valuable information about what is probably the largest single investment you’ll ever make.
How Can J.F. & Associates Inspections Help Me?
J.F. & Associates Inspections can help you make a wise investment by providing a thorough, professional home inspection using a proven inspection system that has evolved over 28 years of on-site property inspections. We are well trained to perform a thorough inspection of the subject property; effectively utilizing the latest in technology, test equipment and digital photography.
Should I Be Present at the Inspection?
It isn’t necessary for you to be present at the inspection; however, being at the inspection will help you learn about your home. The inspector can give you tips on maintenance and upkeep. Plus, it’s a good time for you to ask questions. If you cannot attend the full inspection service, feel free to come anytime during the inspection. The home inspector will transfer the digital pictures taken during the inspection into a laptop on-site and then review the findings. This review usually takes 10 to 30 minutes depending on the issues.
What Kind of Report Do I Get at Completion of the Inspection?
The Inspection System used includes a description of services performed and narrative comments. The description portion identifies the systems, items checked, details of the house and any limitations of the inspection. The narrative summary of comments describes those items in the inspection identified for further review or action. A separate section of digital photos with comments of the subject property provide visual documentation of significant issues. The inspection report along with photos are emailed normally on the same business day.

Radon Testing
Even if you’re not buying or selling your home, radon testing is one of the most important services we offer. Radon gas testing is an important part of the home buying process as well as a crucial safety inspection.
What is radon?
Radon is a cancer-causing gas that comes from decaying uranium. It is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, responsible for 21,000 deaths in the United States each year. This odorless, tasteless, and invisible gas permeates through soil and rock and seeps into homes through cracks and openings in the foundation.
Why should I have a radon test done in my home?
Every home, old and new, has some level of radon. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that nearly 1 out of 15 homes in the United States has elevated radon levels. Children and the elderly are the most susceptible to problems with radon, as well as anyone with a respiratory condition such as asthma. The only way to know the radon levels in your home is to have a professional test performed.
How does a radon test work?
We use a Sun Nuclear electronic device for our radon tests. This is one of the most accurate measurement tools available. It tests radon levels in your home every hour for a minimum of 48 hours. Report results are then emailed at the completion of the test.
If my house has radon, is it a correctable problem?
Yes, it is. Radon gas can be vented to the exterior of the home through a process called sub-slab remediation. Pipes and an in-line fan are installed so that the gas can be removed safely to the outside of your home.
